108 of 568 returned from Kosovo
Almost 20 percent of those who returned voluntarily in 2008 were from Kosovo.
Last year was a good year for voluntary return. Overall, there was an increase of 28 percent from 2007. Of the 568 people who returned were 108 from Kosovo.
Norwegian authorities have recognized the Republic of Kosovo as an independent state 28 March 2008.
VARP
Voluntary Assisted Return Program (VARP) offers assistance and aid to persons without a residence permit in Norway who want to travel back to their homeland. Immigration (UDI) and the Police Immigration Unit (PU) are contractors for the project, while it is the international organization for migration (IOM) which is the project. The organization informs the people that live in and outside the asylum.
Worthy return
The goal of VARP is to provide a single, organized, safe and worthy of returning an opportunity to persons without a residence permit. IOM provides services including information and advice, help to obtain travel documents / passports, organizer of the trip, plane tickets, transit visas, assistance in transit and on arrival in their country. Return by IOM is free.
Obliged to leave Norway
All who have sought asylum in Norway and who either want to go home voluntarily or have been rejected in his asylum application may apply for voluntary return. You can also search if other causes have not legally stay in the country. People who have received final rejection of their asylum applications are obliged to leave the country.
Those who avail themselves of VARP travel and arrive in their home as an ordinary passenger. Police are not involved in the return. When the deportations, however, Norwegian police often present during the entire journey. People who are transported out of the police and later returns to Norway, will not get a visa, work permit or residence permit before expenses in connection with the deportations are paid.
The voluntary return program in Norway started 2 May 2002. Since then, over 5 500 people returned.
