Umro slavni dirigent Lorin Maazel"Lorin Mazel od 2002. je bio počasni član Bečke filharmonije. Jedanaest puta je dirigovao na Novogodišnjem koncertu, najpopularnijem svetskom koncertu klasične muzike. Bio je na čelu Klivlendskog orkestra (1972-1982), Bečke opere (1982-1984), Pitsburškog simfonijskog orkestra (1984-1996), Simfonijskog orkestra bavarskog radija (1993-2002) i Njujorške filharmonije (2002-2009). Od 1977. do 1990. često je vodio Nacionalni orkestar Francuske."
